Why the Devil Gets Legal Grounds to Harm Your Family – And How to Pull That Ground Out of His Grip Forever

According to the scriptures, satan has no power over Christians who know the laws and ordinances of God and exercise the power given by Jesus Christ and His authority over evil. This power and authority is our defense against satan’s knowledge of God’s structure of spiritual law. If we know the Word of God and hold firm in our faith consistently until the end, we stand on solid ground.

The bible tells us that satan seeks to steal away the Word from our hearts and he seeks to kill and destroy us. Does that sound like the devil gives up when a person becomes saved? Or does he try to get a Christian distracted, convinced that sin isn’t an issue, and ignorant of a believer’s power over evil by the Name of Jesus Christ?

Doesn’t the devil work very hard to manipulate the ignorance of the common believer to that he can get legal ground to torment and oppress the believer and his children? Why does satan seem to get this legal ground to torment some families more than others, even when the Christians of both families are equally repentant and living righteously? That is the mystery that we need to understand.

All we have to do is look at the body of Christ today to see that some churchgoers seem to have a simpler spiritual life and are fairly comfortable in the world. While the most genuine of spiritual seekers seem almost from birth to be plagued by curses and their families harvest ungodly fruits such as divorce, abortion, estrangement, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, lust, idolatry, sorcery, witchcraft, fortunetelling, incest, pedophilia, necromancy and secret oath-taking, just to name a few. The devoted seeker looks for guidance in the church when they finally come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, but more times than not, they find Christian leaders who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.

By denying the power of the Name of Jesus and the authority given to us by Him, the leaders help the devil keep his foothold in the church and in the new convert’s family. These leaders go so far as to mock those ministries that help believers understand God’s warning to the children of Israel about the mystery of generational iniquity. These mocked ministries are often more hidden but they are helping genuine believers gain full deliverance from spiritual bondage. God has raised these ministries up so that Christians will know how to come out of the wilderness and into the blessing that is meant for their lives! And become equipped to shepherd others.

God knew that we would perish if we lacked knowledge of His precepts. He warned us about this in Hosea 4:6. A Christian who fails to seek and understand that knowledge of God’s perfect design cannot properly defend his or her families against the enemy’s tricks and traps. Denial of the devil’s schemes is not knowledge, it’s ignorance trying to be wise (Romans 1:22), and it only perpetuates the trend of families being destroyed and divided.

So what can we do? The moment we begin to understand God’s spiritual laws and precepts, we can go about making the necessary corrections to how we’re living and praying. It takes a humble person to admit that our life has been seemingly cursed due to our own error and the error of our ancestors, not God’s lack of hearing prayers. The moment we begin humbly realizing there has to be some unconfessed ancestral sin, we can find out what it is, confess it, so we can get that door closed for good!

Yes, even Christians with a strong calling for spiritual warfare or to warn the people of what is coming, can live victorious in the joy of the Lord and in the peace of Christ. Jesus Christ gave us ALL the victory over this mysterious oppressive force of evil attempting to push out or snuff out our family’s blessings. So after we have confessed past sins at the moment of salvation, forgiven our enemies, casted out unclean spirits in the Name of Jesus Christ and have come to live righteously, what knowledge are Christians are still missing?

When we read the bible, we find that as God speaks to Israel, He tells them that the unrighteous choices of their ancestors have a silent but tangible influence on the future generations.

Exodus 34:7 “keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Numbers 14:18 “The LORD is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.”

So let’s pause here to review the definitions of the words sin, transgression and iniquity used in these verses, so we know exactly what the 12 tribes of Israel did to set a silent but tangible affect on the lives of future generations:

Sin Defined: “Missing the Mark”

The Hebrew meaning of sin is: Slipping away from where you should be; Erring from the path on which God has put you; Not achieving a standard that God has set; Missing the road or the mark or path;

The Greek meaning of sin is: Missing the mark; an act of disobedience to the divine Lord.

Transgression Defined: “Rebellion Against Righteous Living”

The Hebrew meaning of transgression is a willful deviation from, and therefore rebellion against, the path of godly living.

The Greek meaning of transgression is: To go beyond; Overstepping the limits.

This word very strongly links with rebellion and disobedience. Transgressions are more potent than just sinning and are the next step into further permanent bondage. Transgressions are related to trespass, which is a willful violation of the law (human or Godly law).

Iniquity Defined: “Repeated Sin Degrading into Wickedness”

The Hebrew meaning is: wickedness, perverseness, bowed down, twisted; to be bent or crooked; to be wrung out of course.

Drake’s Annotated Bible states that iniquity “… signifies not merely that which is wrong, but the tendency to do wrong.

Iniquity involves lawlessness, unrighteousness, transgression and perversion.

How do I heal my family?

Above we saw how God told the 12 tribes of Israel that he loved them, but that there was still a penalty of iniquity on their generations. By looking at the definition of sin, transgression and iniquity, we can see how the Israelites were supposed to live. They were to hit the mark of righteousness by staying out of sin, they were to live obedient to God, and they were to not pervert God’s instruction. We see this reinforced in the scriptures when God led the Israelites into the promised land of Canaan. He told them (Ezekiel 44:23):

“The priests shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the common or profane, and cause them to distinguish between the unclean and the clean.”

Why would the children of Israel need to know how to distinguish what was holy and unclean? One, to keep from sin and iniquity, and two to repent if they had erred. This repentance of sin is of central importance because sin brings God’s judgment.

  • But if we turn to Leviticus, we will see also that there is additional power in repentance of the sins, transgressions and iniquities of our ancestors.

Leviticus 26:40

40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

In working with sensitive people over the years, I have seen time and time again that when we research into what sins our ancestors have committed, and repent, so much freedom comes to that person. Most families hide their transgressions and never admit to them even if asked, so it takes some prayer. But that serves to bring us closer to the Lord.

For those who are experiencing the curse of iniquity like that which was placed on the children of Israel in ancient times, repentance with understanding of God’s heart to turn us back to Him is the missing component we need to claim the restoration which he offers.

Sometimes believers need insight into what those particular unconfessed sins of the ancestry were. If you’re stuck and need help investigating why curses still seem to be operating in your family, consider online deliverance counseling.
